Game 2 of the Adrantis Endeavour Escalation League: Salamanders v Sons of Horus

This week I played the second game of our escalation league, I was paired against Matt and his Salamanders. We played the second mission in the 3rd edition core book, Crucible Of War, and we deployed in a straightforward Dawn of War setup. I thought I'd write the report up more narratively this week, lists follow at the end! Hope you like it! :)

The Salamanders seized the initiative, surging onto two objectives with Tactical Squads while a Rhino packed with Pyroclasts and their Praetor thundered toward a third. Their Vindicator roared first, its demolisher shell annihilating three Sons of Horus from the 23rd.

The Warmaster’s sons struck back with fury. A Rhino burst from cover, disgorging Reavers and Chief Herald Draegor Malith straight into the Salamanders holding the midfield. In a storm of blades and brutality the Loyalists were torn apart. Draegor himself bellowed praises to Horus as he butchered their centurion before the traitor’s axe could fall.

Turn two saw the Pyroclasts advance, unaware of the massacre unfolding. Another Salamander squad, unflinching despite the carnage, unleashed disciplined bolter fire into the Reavers. Four sons fell, halting their reckless charge across the battlefield. The Vindicator pivoted and smashed its cannon into the Reavers’ Rhino, crippling it.

But the Sons were undeterred. The Reavers fell back into their transport, which roared forward again in a desperate thrust. Legionaries of the 23rd sprinted through the kill-zone of the Vindicator to secure the ground their brothers had bled for.

Then the Pyroclasts struck. Disembarking at last, they unleashed their infamous firepower. Sons of Horus were reduced to molten ceramite as the Salamanders claimed their side of the field. Yet elsewhere the Reavers surged once more, lightning claws tearing through Loyalist Legionaries and ripping them from their objective in a storm of gore.

As the battle neared its climax, Contemptor Orrek Droskar sought to end it. His conversion beamers lanced across the field, one shot crippling the enemy Praetor, the other falling wide. Wounded but alive, the Salamander leader endured — for now.

When the dust settled, it was the Sons of Horus who held the ground, forcing the Salamanders back in bitter retreat.

For the Warmaster. Lupercal! Lupercal! Lupercal!

23rd Chapter, 2nd Battalion, The Blind Sons

I am currently playing in a escalation league for Horus Heresy at my LGS. We are starting at 750 points and adding 250, up to 3000.  I already have the army mapped out, and built and painted, minus one Kratos. This spured me on to write a little bit of lore for my Army, which I'm hoping to make into a little zine soon. Enjoy! The 23rd 2nd Battalion were called “The Blind Sons” as a taunt by Terran Astartes. They only saw their savage efficiency and unyielding obedience. To many of the veterans of Terra and Luna, their absence of hesitation, their refusal to question, and their callous indifference to the horrors they wrought in the name of Unity, was disturbing. But the 23rd were never truly blind. Not to what they did, not to the suffering they caused, they saw it all — and chose not to look away. To them, strength came from silence, commitment, and clarity. In war, there is no room for doubt, no space for guilt. Mercy was the luxury of the weak. A nasty bunch of Reav...

Game 1 of the Adrantis Endeavour Escalation League: Death Guard vs Sons of Horus

Game 1 down! A loss for my Sons of Horus, but a valuable lesson learnt about ensuring you can pull of your charges when they matter. Final Scores: Death Guard: 19  Sons of Horus: 12 This was a super fun game, at 750 points theres a surprising amount of units you can bring to a game of 3rd edition Heresy. I've included photos of my army at the end.  The mission we played was The Heart of the Battle, with a Dawn of War deployment. This mission involves a 3 point objective in the centre of the battlefield, and two 1 point objectives placed by the players. There are also points for; Slay The Warlord (3) Giant Killer (3) Last Man Standing (3)  First Strike (3) I chose not to seize, so I went second. Apart from a few Legionaries being picked off by bolters, and my opponent moving towards the centre objective, I got off lightly. In my first turn I ran my Rhino straight up the middle of the board, towards the centre objective, and my opponents Centuri...
