Game 1 of the Adrantis Endeavour Escalation League: Death Guard vs Sons of Horus

Game 1 down! A loss for my Sons of Horus, but a valuable lesson learnt about ensuring you can pull of your charges when they matter.

Final Scores:

Death Guard: 19
Sons of Horus: 12

This was a super fun game, at 750 points theres a surprising amount of units you can bring to a game of 3rd edition Heresy. I've included photos of my army at the end.

The mission we played was The Heart of the Battle, with a Dawn of War deployment. This mission involves a 3 point objective in the centre of the battlefield, and two 1 point objectives placed by the players. There are also points for;
  • Slay The Warlord (3)
  • Giant Killer (3)
  • Last Man Standing (3)
  • First Strike (3)
I chose not to seize, so I went second. Apart from a few Legionaries being picked off by bolters, and my opponent moving towards the centre objective, I got off lightly. In my first turn I ran my Rhino straight up the middle of the board, towards the centre objective, and my opponents Centurion and Breacher Squad. The Reavers pilled out and moved towards their prey getting them only an inch away. The Centurion and Brecher Squad reacted, moving 4" back, meaning I needed at least a 5 to successfully charge. After rolling a 3, and a 4 however, I knew I was a sitting duck.

From here my opponent shot their Leviathan's Autocannons, flamers, and Phosphex into my Reavers, and after their Breachers, and Tactical Squad joined in the shooting, I was left with 3 Reavers and my Herald. In my turn 2, I charged the Breachers, challenged my opponents Centurion, but unfortunately my Herald couldn't best him, but crucially, he inflicted 3 wounds. After the 3rd round of Combat, my Reavers cut down the last of the Breachers, and the Centurion fled, but my Reavers pursued him, and caught him as he ran away, dealing the final blow.

Sadly, after this, my brave Reavers were stood right in front of a tactical squad, who promptly gunned them down. To be expected really.

The end of the game was a desperate attempt to score points, only having 2 units of Tactical Legionaries left, I moved onto the centre point and scored some objective points, but eventually these units were gunned down, leaving my poor Rhino on 1 Hull Point.

23rd Chapter, 2nd Battalion, The Blind Sons

I am currently playing in a escalation league for Horus Heresy at my LGS. We are starting at 750 points and adding 250, up to 3000.  I already have the army mapped out, and built and painted, minus one Kratos. This spured me on to write a little bit of lore for my Army, which I'm hoping to make into a little zine soon. Enjoy! The 23rd 2nd Battalion were called “The Blind Sons” as a taunt by Terran Astartes. They only saw their savage efficiency and unyielding obedience. To many of the veterans of Terra and Luna, their absence of hesitation, their refusal to question, and their callous indifference to the horrors they wrought in the name of Unity, was disturbing. But the 23rd were never truly blind. Not to what they did, not to the suffering they caused, they saw it all — and chose not to look away. To them, strength came from silence, commitment, and clarity. In war, there is no room for doubt, no space for guilt. Mercy was the luxury of the weak. A nasty bunch of Reav...
